I only went away for couple of nights, with my boy Pip, to a shepherd hut in Dorset - a random find on Airbnb - and what a delight it was too. But - the organising and the recovering (there was an emergency dental visit on Saturday) have left me feeling like I am having to play catch up - so this is a catch-update!
First - and I have been remiss with this (actually, that might be a bit of a common theme ….) 10 year old Harry (HedgyHarry) has done something quite remarkable …. Cycling the length of the UK raising money for St Tiggywinkles … and on Saturday they reached Land's End - 2,400 miles in 54 days. Read all about it here - and donate here.
This makes him the youngest person to cycle from Land's End to John O Groats and back again … oh, yes, this was not just a ‘simple’ trip down the country!!!
Utterly amazing - and thank you Harry for all you do for hedgehogs. While the money is great, it is the awareness raising that is even more important.
And while I am on the subject of mammoth journeys to raise money - can I just introduce you to Indy Kiemel Greene and Katie Monk - who have walked from Land's End to John O Groats this summer - raising money for the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust.
More than 1250 miles covered, they have raised over £21,000 so far!
Next, not a fundraiser - but an opportunity … Have you got what it takes to run an up and coming hedgehog hospital and charity? The wonderful folk at Prickles and Paws, in Cornwall, are looking for a CEO … a truly brilliant chance to work with amazing people. Details here.
There is another hedgehog rescue that I am very fond of - Shepreth - near Cambridge. I am a patron and have been invited to be the MC at their fundraising ball in Kings College … it will be an amazing event - the dining hall is remarkable - the food amazing - and the host for the evening … well … what can I say … here is me being silly last time around!
Anyway - if you would like to take part - follow this link - and see you on the 21st December!! Over the last 40 years the charity and wildlife park have raised over £650,000 for wildlife conservation …
Another thing I am up to - being interviewed near Lechlade on 27th September … the event is called ‘Helping Hedgehogs and the Ethical Issues with Conservation’ and I am really looking forward to the event, which sounds like it is set up in a gorgeous venue.
Oh, there feels like there is so much more … but it will have to wait for now. Wait - how about ending with this. My wife, Zoe, filmed my friend Roman Krznaric at the weekend, taking part in a campaign seeking to make our democracy work better. I have heard Roman talk on this subject before, but thought this was remarkably eloquent - please have a listen.
I will be back soon (with all the things I have forgotten ... and some NEWS!)
