I wish I could help with the hedgehogs. They are so adorable and so important to the ecosystem but I’m in the US but I love to learn about them and love your Substack.

Thank you for this information, please could we have more info re urban gardens about slug pellets and habitat to enable them to prosper, I haven’t seen a hedgehog in the wild for 35 years 😔

slug pellets are not high on the list of concerns ... though they are, of course, killing hedgehog food to some extent. Main worries are about loss of habitat and fragmentation of remaining habitat. Your observation is very much in line with what we observe when reviewing the surveys though ... if you have a look at https://bighedgehogmap.org you should be able to see if anyone else is seeing hogs near you.

ALL OVER THE PLACE IS A DANGER TO WILDLIFE ,ALSO MAN HOLE COVERS AND ROAD WORKS WITH EXPOSED AREAS, ARE A DANGER TO WILDLFE LIKE HEDGEHOGS. I WILL BE ALWAYS ON THE LOOK OUT FOR DANGER TO ANY ANIMAL.
