I too, grew up with a profound, deep love of animals, despite having parents that were not as enthusiastic. We blame the Noah's ark wallpaper I had as a baby. Apparently I was fascinated by it! I did as much speaking up for animal welfare as I could growing up much to the dismay of my parents and I went on to work as a veterinary nurse. I am still full time approaching 30 years of doing this. I went vegetarian on leaving school and vegan 5 years later. Never looked back. I've now discovered a love of photographing nature which I share to encourage others to also enjoy it!
No, I don't tend to go on social media as such. I have had some success having the photos printed in national newspapers and to promote world animal day though.
I'm in my late 40's and like you too have always had a love of animals. Me too have always wanted to work with animal's but lack the required brains to be a vet!
I work with people now but i pray in my next life( if there is one) that i can dedicate it to animal's for you is gonna stand up for them? They can't do it themselves!
Coincidentally i've just ordered a DNA kit to see where parts of me are from!
I reckon it's gonna show i have a bit of David Attenborough in me! ( That is a joke btw)
Thank you Hugh for your great interest in animals.
I would love to find out that I was related to someone like that!!! Not entirely sure they are that accurate mind ... and all the stuff I imagine you do in your day to day life will be helping nature too!
I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A AVID ANIMAL LOVER ,ALL MY PETS ARE ALL RESCUE, I ALSO HAVE A LOVE FOR NATURE AND ALL WILDLIFE ITS SUCH A LOVELY FEELING TO WATCH THE BIRDS AND HEDGEHOGS BADGERS AND FOXES IN MY OWN GARDEN WE ALL NEED TO LOOK AFTER NATURE WHILE WE ALL CAN.
I too am on my unique journey of self discovery- of my origins. Behavioural genetics by Plomin is worth a read as is the extended phenotype by Dawkins. We were not born blank slates. ❤️
My inspiration was my Biology teacher at Sir Frederick Osborn School, W.G.C. - D.G. Mackean - who many will remember as the author of the big, dark green "An Introduction to Biology". His son was in my class. I'm pretty sure he pulled some strings to help me get into Sheffield University to read Zoology & Botany. So my lifetime interest in nature and the - now much despoiled 😔 - environment started early and continues in my '70s. I'm trying to encourage nature to thrive in my garden, though sadly no hedgehogs (yet... 🤞).

Great to hear your news. Can I still do an occasional gift, like the cup of coffee thing ?
Dear Julia, that is so very kind - you can still use the coffee thing - I link to it here - https://hughwarwick.substack.com/p/support - but please, only if you can x
