How wonderful! I dimly recall reading about this tradition, but I have never seen or heard it! Loved the eyewitness account and the photos! Is there a recording of the livestream? Seeing/hearing the event would be a treat.
Link works fine, a treat indeed! Sacred music and prayers are the best nourishment for the soul no matter what your faith. And the weather was perfect!
As we were walking towards Blackwells on Wednesday evening, spotting students in May ball finery, I said to my husband we should really get up one May Morning and join in the revels - I've lived here 20 years and never have! (despite my morris dancing past, and he has even less of an excuse being Oxfordshire born and bred). I should probably just go and book some annual leave for it *now*.
really really worth it, though much less fun in a downpour ... hope it is clear for you next year. I won't be up the tower for a while again now I reckon - very much a rarity!
What fun! I never knew about this before! I fell in love with Oxford when I visited there once. Would love to come back and explore further.
Sounds glorious
